Privacy policy

Last updated: 28 May 2026

WaveBG is built so your Mac stays yours. This document is the short, plain-English version of what that means in practice.

What WaveBG reads

WaveBG reads your Mac's system audio output through Apple's Core Audio Process Taps API. The audio is processed in memory to compute a frequency spectrum, which drives the visualization. The original audio buffer is released as soon as the next visualization frame is drawn.

What WaveBG collects

Nothing. The WaveBG app collects no analytics, no telemetry, and no personal data. It makes no network connections of any kind. There is no account, no sign-in, and no usage reporting — the app's "App Privacy" label on the Mac App Store is Data Not Collected.

Your settings (chosen visualizer, palette, frame rate, etc.) are stored only on your own Mac, in the app's sandbox container. They never leave your device.

The wavebg.io website

This privacy-policy page and the rest of wavebg.io (the marketing website — separate from the app) use Google Analytics 4 to measure aggregate visitor traffic — page views, country, referring site, browser type. IP addresses are anonymised before any data is stored; we do not see your IP. This is the website only — the WaveBG app itself sends nothing, ever. You can block the website analytics with any standard tracker blocker (uBlock Origin, Privacy Badger, browser-level tracking protection) without affecting the site.

Children's privacy

WaveBG is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the "Last updated" date above will move and the change will be summarized at the top of this page.
